Why the opening matters more than the width

A shoe you cannot get on is not a wide shoe.

Most wide-fit ranges sell you a width code and stop there. But the complaint we hear is almost never “it is tight once it is on” — it is “I cannot get my foot into it in the first place.” A swollen foot, a bandaged foot or a foot that will not bend needs the shoe to open out flat and then close around it.

So that is how the range is built. Four styles, four widths of opening, one price. The strap does the width; you do not have to predict it in advance.
